In order to put an item up for auction, the first thing you must do is talk to an Auctioneer NPC. Auctioneer NPC's can be found in Ironforge, Orgrimmar, Everlook, Booty Bay, and Gadgetzan. The Auctioneer NPCs in Everlook, Booty Bay, and Gadgetzan allow the auctioning of items to both Horde and Alliance players for a greater fee.

Auctioneer NPC's are located in all major Horde and Alliance towns. The Auctioneers are faction specific, allowing Alliance characters to trade with other Alliance characters and Horde characters to trade with other Horde characters.

Chat Auctions are an alternative to Auction Houses for players who want to trade instantly without waiting. The seller runs an auction in a trading channel, then sells the item to the highest bidder at the close of the auction. The buyer and seller must then meet up in the world to make the trade.

Auctioneer NPCs can be found in in Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff for Horde player-created auctions and are a part of the same Auction House. Alliance players will find Auction Houses in Ironforge, Stormwind City, and Darnassus. These Auction Houses are linked together for each faction. Horde and Alliance players cannot buy or sell items to each other unless they use the neutral Auction Houses listed below. Ask a guard for directions.

In faraway Silithus, geysers of a strange red crystalline dust have started to appear in the desert. Both the Alliance and the Horde have taken an interest in this new substance, which is called silithyst, and researchers on both sides have discovered unique and valuable properties in the dust. The Horde and Alliance camps in the region have both been outfitted with turn-in stations where adventurers can unload the silithyst they collect.
